What you get

One press, screen down.

A motorized retractable patio screen runs on a Somfy tubular motor inside the headbox. The motor pulls the mesh down on guides built into the side rails, lands at the floor, and seals against the bottom rail. Press again and it goes back up into the cassette where it stays clean and out of sight.

Standard ship-out includes a hardwired wall switch and a handheld RTS remote on every install. Smart-home pairing through Somfy TaHoma, Alexa, Google Home, or Apple HomeKit is optional and works on the same motor. You don't pick the controller at order time, you pick it after install.

Single-pane Talius Fly Screens run up to 8.2 feet wide motorized. Multi-panel runs reach 16.4 feet on a single linked system. The motor is rated for many years of seasonal Ontario duty cycles and the warranty is 10 years on the screen, mesh, and motor combined.

What sets them apart

Four reasons buyers pick motorized.

Hands-free operation

Single press from a wall switch or remote drops or retracts the screen. No crank, no climbing, no two-person job on a wide opening.

Smart-home ready

TaHoma bridge pairs the motor with Alexa, Google Home, and HomeKit. Voice command, schedule, geofence, or trigger from any other smart device on the same network.

Wind-sensor compatible

Optional wind sensor reads gust speed at the headbox and auto-retracts above a set threshold. Saves the mesh on lakefront installs and exposed corner builds.

Quiet, sealed motor

Somfy tubular motors run quiet enough that the screen drops without waking anyone. Sealed inside the aluminum headbox so weather and dust never reach the moving parts.

Controllers + smart-home

Wall switch, remote, or app.

Every motorized install ships with a hardwired wall switch and a handheld RTS remote. The wall switch lives next to the patio door and looks like a standard rocker. The remote lets the homeowner control multiple screens from the same unit. Both work without internet and without any setup.

Smart-home control is the optional layer on top. The Somfy TaHoma bridge talks to the motor over RTS radio and exposes the screen to Alexa, Google Home, and Apple HomeKit. Once paired, you can drop the screen with a voice command, set a schedule, or trigger it from any other smart device on the same network.

  • Hardwired wall switch in standard or designer faceplate
  • Handheld RTS remote with 1, 5, or 16 channels
  • Somfy TaHoma bridge for Alexa / Google Home / HomeKit (optional)
  • Wind sensor that auto-retracts above a set gust threshold (optional)
  • Sun sensor that deploys based on light intensity (optional, common on solar-shade installs)

Where motorized fits best

Three scenarios motorized earns its place.

Wide patio openings (12-16 ft)

Hand-cranking a 14-foot screen turns into a chore the second summer. Motorized runs the same opening in 15 seconds and never wears out the user.

Multi-screen installs

Wraparound corners and side-by-side multi-pane runs are awkward to operate by hand. Motorized lets the homeowner drop all screens from one switch.

Smart-home households

If you already run Alexa, Google Home, or HomeKit, the screen drops into your existing routines. Voice command, schedules, geofencing all work the same way as your other smart devices.

What it costs

Motorized adds a known premium over manual.

A motorized retractable patio screen costs more than a manual hand-crank version on the same opening. The premium covers the Somfy motor, the wiring, the wall switch, and the handheld remote. Most Ontario homeowners find the upgrade pays back in convenience within the first season on any opening over 10 feet wide. Smart-home pairing, wind sensors, and sun sensors are optional add-ons that come in at known additional steps. We send a written quote on your specific opening within one business day of the site visit, with the manual and motorized prices laid out so you can compare.

  • Opening width and span (single pane vs multi-panel)
  • Mesh choice (no-see-um, standard insect, or solar)
  • Smart-home bridge (TaHoma, Alexa, Google Home, HomeKit)
  • Wind or sun sensor add-ons
  • Frame colour (5 stock or custom RAL match)
  • Install complexity (drive distance, soffit access, masonry mounts)
