What you get

Multi-pane linked runs, single-switch deploy.

A large-opening retractable patio screen is two or more Talius screen units linked end-to-end with a shared headbox track. Each unit has its own motor and mesh, but they deploy and retract together from a single wall switch, remote, or smart-hub. From the patio, it looks like one continuous screen running the full opening width.

Single-pane Fly Screens run up to 8.2 feet wide. Multi-panel linked runs reach 16.4 feet on a single linked system. Wider openings split into multiple linked sets, which scales the install to 30 feet and beyond. Most Ontario large-opening installs land between 14 and 22 feet.

The track is the same zip-lock system rated for 100 mph wind that the standard installs use. The mesh is the same insect, no-see-um, or solar weave options. The motor is the same Somfy tubular drive. The only difference is unit count and the linkage between them, which the install crew handles at fabrication.

What sets large openings apart

Four reasons buyers go with multi-pane.

Single-switch operation

All linked units drop together from one wall switch or remote. No coordinating multiple switches, no per-unit timing.

100 mph wind rating

Same zip-lock track and seal as standard installs. The wider the opening, the more the wind sensor add-on earns its place.

Seamless mesh appearance

Side rails align to unit boundaries, the linkage looks continuous when deployed. From the patio you see one screen, not three.

Custom RAL frame colour

5 stock options plus full custom RAL match. Most large-opening installs run a dark frame so the system disappears against the trim when retracted.

Common large-opening applications

Where wide-span installs earn their place.

Large-opening installs typically land on covered patios with full-width back walls, restaurant terraces, and outdoor living rooms attached to high-end homes. The opening is wide because the patio is wide, and the homeowner wants the screen to cover the full opening cleanly. A retractable screen at this scale is custom-fit, motorized, and almost always smart-home paired.

Pergolas and timber-frame pavilions are the second common case. The pergola top plate gives you the upper mounting point, and the multi-pane runs span between the structural posts. The screen drops from the pergola eaves and seals to the deck or patio surface below. Wind sensor strongly recommended on lakefront pergola installs because the open structure transmits wind directly to the screen.

  • Covered backyard patios with 12-22 foot back walls
  • Restaurant patio terraces (commercial multi-pane)
  • Pergolas and timber-frame pavilions
  • Outdoor kitchens and rooftop entertaining decks
  • Pool houses and cabanas with wide openings
  • Three-season sunrooms with linked retractable walls

Where large openings fit best

Three scenarios wide-span makes sense.

Covered patios over 12 feet wide

Standard back-wall openings on most modern Ontario homes land in the 14 to 18 foot range. Multi-pane covers it in one cohesive system rather than two separate single panes with a visible gap.

Pergola enclosures

Pergolas without solid walls turn into screened outdoor rooms with wide-span retractables. The pergola structure provides the mounting, the screens fill in the open sides on demand.

Restaurant patio terraces

Commercial wide-span installs typically run 16 to 30 feet across a restaurant patio frontage. Single switch deploy, smart-hub schedule, wind-sensor auto-retract handle the operating side without staff attention.

What large-opening installs cost

Multi-pane scales, but not linearly.

A large-opening multi-pane retractable patio screen scales by linear feet of opening, not by linked unit count. The headbox track, the linkage, and the motor wiring add a known premium over a single-pane install of the same width, but the per-foot cost drops as the opening gets wider because shared overhead spreads across more screen surface. Most Ontario large-opening installs land well into five figures total. We send a written quote on your specific opening within one business day of the site visit, with the spec laid out so you can compare to alternative builds.

  • Total linear feet of opening
  • Number of linked units (2, 3, or more)
  • Mesh choice across each linked panel
  • Wind sensor add-on (strongly recommended above 16 feet)
  • Smart-home pairing through TaHoma
  • Custom RAL frame colour to match trim
  • Install access and structural mounting work
